Whole-House Repiping
Whole-house repiping in Charlotte and York County
Two kinds of pipe in this region reach an age where patching stops making sense: galvanised steel in pre-1960 houses, which rusts closed from the inside, and polybutylene in houses built roughly 1978 to 1995, which fails at the fittings without warning. If you are repairing a supply leak more than about once a year, you are paying for a repipe in instalments.
What a repipe involves
- Full supply-side replacement in PEX-A or copper, your choice
- Phased so the house keeps water every night
- New shutoffs at every fixture — most old houses have none that turn
- Pressure-reducing valve and expansion tank brought to current code
- Drywall cut cleanly, patched and ready for paint
- Permit, inspection and a written warranty on the whole system
What this does not cover
- Drain, waste and vent replacement (a separate job, quoted separately)
- Painting and finish carpentry after patching
- Slab-embedded lines, which get rerouted overhead rather than replaced in place

Repiping — questions we hear
How do I know what pipe I have?
Galvanised is dull grey steel and magnetic. Polybutylene is grey, blue or black flexible plastic, usually with copper or plastic crimp fittings, and it is the one worth checking for urgently. Copper and PEX are fine. Send us a photo of what comes into the water heater and we can usually tell you from that.
Do I have to move out?
No. We work in sections and restore water before we leave each day. Most houses are three to five days.
PEX or copper?
PEX for nearly everyone — fewer joints, no pinhole corrosion, faster, cheaper, and it survives a freeze better. Copper if you want it exposed and visible, or for specific code situations. We will not upsell copper to pad a number.
